Track this month’s steps

Mark each step as you work. Your choices stay in this browser.

1. Capture all activity

Make sure bank, credit-card, payment-processor, loan, and cash activity for the month has been recorded.

2. Categorize transactions

Review uncategorized or unclear items and add enough context to distinguish business income, expenses, transfers, loan activity, owner activity, and other categories.

3. Reconcile accounts

Compare the bookkeeping balances with bank and credit-card statements. Investigate differences instead of carrying them forward.

4. Review invoices and bills

Check outstanding customer invoices, unpaid vendor bills, duplicate items, credits, and payments that have not been applied correctly.

5. Organize supporting documents

Attach or store invoices, receipts, statements, contracts, loan documents, and other supporting records in a consistent location.

6. Review the monthly picture

Look at profit and loss, cash movement, unusual expenses, large changes, and open questions. Document items that need follow-up next month or professional review.
