Common documents to gather

The SBA lists common items such as an EIN (or SSN for some sole proprietors), formation documents, ownership agreements, and business licenses. Banks may request additional identity, address, or ownership information.

Make names and addresses consistent

Use the exact legal business name shown on formation and IRS records. If documents use different addresses or ownership details, resolve or explain the differences before the appointment.

Decide who will be authorized

Know which owners, managers, or employees should have account access and what authority each person needs.

Plan the bookkeeping connection

Once the account opens, add it to the bookkeeping system and define how transactions will be categorized, receipts collected, and monthly reconciliations completed.

Keep the opening documents

Save the account-opening confirmation, signature or authorization records, fee schedule, and relevant bank communications with the business records.
